Political analyst Volodymyr Bobyrenko shared this on Espreso TV. “There’s no panic in Sumy. If Putin thinks his attacks will scare the city, he’s badly mistaken. The front line in Sumy region remains stable. Ukrainian forces have already covered key roads and supply routes with anti-drone netting.”Still, Bobyrenko said Ukrainian troops have voiced frustration over the condition of the fortifications, which local authorities built throughout 2024. Soldiers report that officials misused the massive sums allocated to the project.“Everyone’s talking about the fortifications in Sumy. They spent all of 2024 building them. I’ve seen many of these structures myself — at least the ones visible from the road. But they don’t look like something you’d fight from. The money went somewhere, but certainly not where it should have,” he said.He described one glaring example: “They built a strongpoint in the middle of an open field — it looks more like bait for Russian glide bombs than a usable position. Soldiers tell me they don’t understand why anyone poured that kind of money into junk. I stay in touch with many of them. They all say the same thing: these fortifications are pointless. It’s like a suitcase with no handle — too heavy to carry, too painful to abandon.”Ukrainian forces have halted the advance of Russian troops in the border areas of Sumy region and stabilized the front line, according to Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi.
