The Prime Minister said this on state radio, as quoted by Telex.Viktor Orbán said that Hungary "understands the Ukrainians and sees their heroic struggle.""We also see that they need help, but we want to help in a way that doesn’t destroy ourselves. Ukraine’s EU membership would mean we destroy ourselves. We would instantly be drawn into the war with Russia and bring it onto EU territory, including Hungary," the Hungarian Prime Minister stated."Yesterday, thanks to over two million votes on Voks2025, we stopped Ukraine’s accession to the European Union," he added. The Hungarian Prime Minister stated that Ukraine remains an "uncertain entity" not by its own fault.“We don’t even know what Ukraine is today or where its borders lie. This danger existed in other former Soviet bloc countries as well. That’s why they were first admitted to NATO, because NATO could guarantee those borders. Only after that did the EU accept other respective countries,” Orbán continued, adding that Ukraine cannot be admitted to NATO, as that would mean immediate war.On June 26, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán claimed that, according to the results of his survey on Ukraine’s accession to the EU, 95% of respondents allegedly oppose it.At the EU summit on June 26, the European Council failed to unanimously adopt a statement in support of Ukraine: out of 27 member states, Hungary did not sign the document.
