His war aims at nothing less than the subjugation of Ukraine. He attacks Ukrainians with brutal bombing terror. Every day and night, people die in their own homes, in Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipro. But despite all the destruction and terror, Ukrainians daily and repeatedly resolutely defend their country, their freedom, and their future. They demonstrate incredible courage, strength, and endurance. This deserves our highest respect,” he emphasized.Wadephul confirmed Germany’s unwavering support for Ukraine, stressing the importance of this assistance for European stability.“We will continue to firmly stand by Ukraine so that it can successfully defend itself, with the help of a modern air defense system and other weapons, as well as humanitarian and economic aid. I have come to Kyiv today with this commitment,” the diplomat added. The head of the German Foreign Ministry expressed confidence in Ukraine’s serious intentions to end the war through negotiations but noted that Putin shows no willingness for constructive dialogue, seeking only capitulation.“And as long as this is the case, we will continue to restrict Putin’s ability to finance this criminal war through sanctions. We are working intensively on this within the European Union and together with our Group of Seven (G7) partners,” he added.Johann Wadephul has already visited Ukraine since his appointment. He made his first official visit to Lviv on May 8–9, 2025.
