This is according to an investigation published in The Lancet journal, as reported by Reuters.According to the study, USAID funding has played a crucial role in improving global health, primarily targeting low- and middle-income countries, including African nations.Over the past 20 years, USAID has helped prevent more than 91 million deaths, 30 million of which were children.Ongoing significant funding cuts—combined with the potential elimination of the agency—could result in more than 14 million additional deaths by 2030, including 4.5 million deaths among children under the age of five.“Our estimates show that, unless the abrupt funding cuts announced and implemented in the first half of 2025 are reversed, a staggering number of avoidable deaths could occur by 2030,” the report states. In January, the U.S. federal agency (USAID) suspended funding for all programs and projects in Ukraine.
