Vladyslav Faraponov, head of the Institute of American Studies analytical center, expressed this opinion on Espreso TV."President Donald Trump is already going through, or even finishing, his own shift in thinking, from claiming he could end the [Russian-Ukrainian] war in 24 hours to realizing this war is far more complex," Faraponov said. "If a simple deal had been possible, it would likely have happened at the start of the full-scale invasion. The fact that Trump has repeatedly said his '24-hour' claim was sarcasm could actually be a good sign. At least he won’t keep pushing that line."He noted that Trump’s oversimplified view of the war made things harder for Ukraine, especially in dealing with Republicans in Congress."The important thing," the expert added, "is that Trump now seems to understand that ending the war is much more difficult than he first believed.""There was an opinion in the Congress that if Donald Trump talks about the imminent end of the war, then why continue to provide assistance to Ukraine. Therefore, when Donald Trump says that he does not know whether he will be able to end this war and that it is a complicated process, it brings us closer to strengthening sanctions against Russia. Still, a lot depends on the White House's position on this issue. After all, if the Senate simply votes in favor of this bill, the House of Representatives may simply not vote further," he added.American President Donald Trump held a phone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin on July 3. In particular, the U.S. leader raised the issue of ending the war in Ukraine.Trump said that he had “made no progress” on ending the war in Ukraine during a phone conversation with the Kremlin leader. The very next day, on July 4, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a phone conversation with Donald Trump, in particular on air defense and sky protection.
