However, in this case, the focus should not be on the numbers but rather on the fact that the promise was made to supply missiles. The issue with many Facebook analysts is that they take the U.S. president's words literally, but not seriously. On the contrary, one should take them seriously but not literally.Let's also remember the promises to "end the war in 24 hours," the "125% tariffs on China," and much more.Exact numbers or direct quotes from Truth Social should not be taken as guidance. Even if he did say the number 10 over the phone, it doesn't necessarily mean he assigned any real value to it.The real marker, however, is the official press release on the Pentagon website: "At President Trump's direction, the Department of Defense is sending additional defensive weapons to Ukraine."This official announcement by the Pentagon puts an end to months of scandals, disappointments, and expectations from Ukrainians and allies around the world.Currently, there is little information on what exactly "additional defensive weapons" refers to. In an ideal scenario, not only would frozen shipments be restored, but additional assistance would also be provided. Whether this will happen remains unclear.According to The Wall Street Journal, the U.S. National Security Council is meeting on Tuesday, July 8, to discuss new arms supplies for Ukraine. It is unlikely that any drastic decisions will be made at this meeting. But it is already clear: to implement the Pentagon's announced unfreezing of shipments, such a meeting is not necessary. Most likely, it will focus on general approaches to strengthening Ukraine's defense — from the sale of weapons funded by European allies to assessing remaining weapon stockpiles in the U.S. Army. For Ukraine and Europe, the mere fact that this issue is being discussed is an important signal of a possible change in approaches by the American administration. This could be the first step not only toward expanding weapon shipments but also toward changing the tactics of pressure on Russia during negotiations. If Putin did not react to the promises of "great trade," he is reacting to real steps regarding increased arms supply — as shown by the NATO summit in June. It is enough to mention that after the news of 5% of GDP being allocated for arms in Europe and Ukraine, Putin spoke about the intention to cut war expenses. This is logical because it is clear who Europe is arming against and who European missiles will be aimed at.It is obvious that maintaining, and ideally expanding, U.S. arms supplies is important but not the only factor in Ukraine's defense. It already has enhanced support from Europe and allies around the world — from Australia to Canada, from Japan to Turkey. However, the decisive factor has been and remains the combat effectiveness of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Without exaggeration, Ukrainian soldiers are making history. And only from Ukrainians, from their support for the army, will it depend on what that history will look like in textbooks worldwide.SourceAbout the author: Mykola Knyzhytskyi, journalist, member of the Ukrainian parliamentThe editorial team does not always share the views expressed by the authors of blogs or columns.
