China denies laser attack on German plane in Red Sea incident

They also maintained good relations with Germany and the EU,” the spokesperson said.Previously, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany reported: "Chinese military personnel used a laser to target a German aircraft during the EU ASPIDES operation."The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany emphasized that they consider it unacceptable to endanger German personnel and disrupt the operation. Today, China’s ambassador was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany.The aircraft, which is involved in the EU ASPIDES mission protecting international maritime routes in the Red Sea, has been providing a multi-sensor platform for reconnaissance of the area since October, according to Reuters. A Chinese military ship, which had encountered the area several times, targeted the aircraft with a laser during a routine flight, without any reason or prior notice, the Ministry spokesperson reported. The incident occurred in early July.Afterward, the flight was interrupted as a precautionary measure, and the aircraft safely landed at the base in Djibouti.China had previously denied allegations of using lasers or targeting American aircraft.In 2020, the U.S. Pacific Fleet stated that a Chinese military ship had used a laser against a U.S. Navy patrol aircraft flying in international airspace west of Guam. China denied the claims, stating that they were not factual.There has been no official response from China regarding this new incident.Ukrainian authorities are considering the possibility of imposing sanctions from the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) on Chinese companies whose components were found in drones used by Russia to attack Ukraine.
