Manhattan University professor Igor Aizenberg expressed this opinion in The World and Us project with Yevhen Mahda.“They both (Musk and Trump, - ed.), in my opinion—this is my personal opinion—wanted to use each other, each had their own goal. Trump wanted to use Musk, firstly, to win the election, because I think Musk’s money played a big role. Musk invested over $250 million in Trump’s election campaign. And he paid for massive advertising on television in swing states for Trump. He turned the former Twitter into a sort of mouthpiece supporting Trump. He provided a platform on Twitter, for example, to Tucker Carlson, so that he could essentially campaign for Trump,” he noted.Igor Aizenberg pointed out that Musk’s role was significant here, and Trump was counting on that. Then Trump relied on Musk to help him destroy the established system of governing the country, the established system of the federal government.“And Musk helped him do that as well. And then Musk became unnecessary to Trump, because, well, he had done everything Trump wanted from him. Musk obviously bet on Trump, trying to become a very powerful oligarch. An oligarch on whom decisions about any political or economic issues would depend, who would have direct influence on absolutely everything happening in the government. Well, Trump’s bet worked, obviously, but Musk’s bet did not, because Musk is now outside the government, in such opposition to Trump, and it’s hardly possible to imagine that they would reconcile again, that they would become allies again, because, well, Musk is no longer needed by Trump. That’s why Musk took offense, and that’s why he started talking about creating a new party,” Professor Aizenberg added.
