Military expert Oleksandr Kovalenko discussed the issue on his Telegram channel. In Russia, a sweeping campaign against migrants continues to escalate as authorities seek to bolster their military forces for the ongoing war in Ukraine. The Russian Investigative Committee has expanded raids on construction sites and markets, specifically targeting migrants who have obtained Russian citizenship. Many of those detained are being forcibly sent to the front lines in Ukraine.Since the beginning of 2025, approximately 100,000 migrants have been detained, with around 30,000 reportedly dispatched to combat zones. This aggressive approach comes as the Russian government faces a severe shortage of new recruits, with voluntary enlistment falling far short of the estimated 30,000 to 35,000 monthly replacements needed to cover battlefield losses. As a result, migrants now make up about 15% of Russia’s mobilization pool in the first half of 2025. Observers note that law enforcement officers are becoming increasingly zealous in these operations, often targeting migrants as the most vulnerable segment of Russian society. The crackdown has intensified alongside the escalation of fighting in Ukraine and the failure of Russia’s summer offensive, signaling a growing reliance on forced conscription of migrants to sustain the war effort. The occupying Russian army lost 1,170 personnel, 3 tanks, and 49 artillery systems during the day on Tuesday, July 15.
