Ukraine's former president slams vote for new PM as unconstitutional amid coalition row

Petro Poroshenko, leader of the European Solidarity party and Ukraine’s fifth president, declared during a Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine’s parliament) discussion on the prime minister’s candidacy that the vote is unconstitutional due to the absence of a Servant of the People coalition.

Quote from Poroshenko:"At this moment the monomajority coalition of 231 MPs is fake. Some of them are hiding from anti-corruption authorities abroad, some of them definitely do not support the candidacy of the prime minister and are not members of the coalition."
Details : Poroshenko noted that in 2019, during Volodymyr Zelenskyy's first week as president, the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) initiated a criminal case on Andrii Portnov's request about the apparent lack of a coalition during the prime minister's selection in 2016. "For many years, this case was considered by the current composition of the SBI," Poroshenko stated.
"I am sure that we should not violate the Constitution," Poroshenko stated. "And as for Ms Yuliia [Svyrydenko’s – ed.] wishes. The Druzhba oil pipeline, cancellation of the ban on leaving the country, appointment and announcement of the competition for the State Bureau of Investigation, Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine. Her position on banning Telegram, positions on building fortifications. Positions on fundamental things, on transferring the economy to military rails. In this we are allies," he emphasised.
The faction highlighted that during the vote for Yuliia Svyrydenko’s candidacy as Prime Minister, the Servant of the People monomajority faction provided 201 votes, falling short of the required 226.
