India ready to find alternatives to Russian oil if U.S. imposes sanctions

If something happens, we'll deal with it. India has diversified the sources of supply and we have gone, I think, from about 27 countries that we used to buy from to about 40 countries now,” Puri said.Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump warned that countries buying oil from Russia could face sanctions if a peace agreement on the war in Ukraine is not reached within 50 days. At the same time, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte added that some countries, including India, could face restrictions for doing business with Moscow.A spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs commented on Rutte’s statement, saying that New Delhi’s top priority was to ensure its energy needs, and in this matter, the country was guided by “prevailing global circumstances.”Earlier this week, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he would impose secondary tariffs on Russia, which could reach 100%, if a peace agreement with Ukraine is not reached within 50 days.
