This opinion was voiced on Espreso TV by Igor Aizenberg, professor at Manhattan University.“I believe Trump was offended by Putin after their latest phone conversation because the Kremlin leader refuses to offer him any concessions. Trump had made plenty of concessions to Putin and received nothing in return. That’s why we’re seeing this shift in the American president’s stance toward Ukraine and the war. Fundamentally, I don’t think anything has changed in Trump’s mind, but he took offense, and now he’s more open to providing Ukraine with weapons,” the professor said.According to Aizenberg, the U.S. president is now open to the idea of selling arms to Ukraine with European money, since selling is something Trump has always loved — it's what he did his whole life.“By the way, former senator and Democrat Claire McCaskill also pointed out that Trump’s shift didn’t come from realizing what’s in the interest of the U.S. or the civilized world — it came from being personally offended by Putin. Still, objectively, this change is a good thing for Ukraine. Let’s just hope another lightning bolt doesn’t strike Trump’s brain — that Putin doesn’t find a new excuse, like he did in May with the Istanbul talks, to once again change Trump’s mind,” Aizenberg added. On July 3, U.S. President Donald Trump held a phone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. During the call, the American leader reportedly raised the issue of ending the war in Ukraine. In response, the Kremlin leader stated that Russia “will not give up on eliminating the root causes of the confrontation.”On July 14, Trump announced plans to introduce secondary tariffs on Russia of up to 100% if no peace deal with Ukraine is reached within 50 days.
