The basic platform supports optional features like amphibious systems, a winch, upgraded armor, and various weapon configurations. The Patria 6x6 was first shown at the Eurosatory exhibition in June 2018. A version with the Patria Nemo turret mortar appeared a year later at DSEi 2019. A heavier version with a 25-mm remote weapon system was unveiled at DSEi 2021.Production takes place in Finland and other countries.“Patria has already received orders for over 800 Patria 6x6 APCs, more than 200 of which have been delivered. Most deliveries are carried out using the local industrial capacity of participating countries, and each new member improves the supply chain’s security,” wrote the Militarnyi portal. In May 2024, a new plant opened in Valmiera, Latvia, specifically to produce the Patria 6x6. According to Defense Express, the planned output, 30 armored vehicles per year, was considered “quite high.”
Patria 6×6 in UkraineAfter Ukrainian Ambassador Anatolii Kutsevol visited the Valmiera plant in February 2025, reports emerged that the first batch of Patria 6x6s was already being assembled for Ukraine. The first official mention came on September 11, 2024, when Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa announced it during a visit to Kyiv.At the time, neither the number of vehicles nor the delivery schedule was disclosed. Later, Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds confirmed that Latvia planned to send 42 wheeled APCs to Ukraine as military aid.The first batch arrived in Ukraine on July 15, 2025, during another visit by Evika Siliņa. She stated that the second batch of “Patrias” was already being prepped for shipment. The total number delivered so far hasn’t been announced.Interestingly, there’s a chance Patria 6×6 vehicles may also be produced in Ukraine. Back in 2023, Finnish media reported that Patria was exploring production in Ukraine, and officials in Kyiv showed interest.Overall, Patria is known for deep localization, as Defense Express pointed out. The publication gave Latvia as an example, where a new plant was built from scratch to produce the APCs. Despite Latvia’s lack of experience in armored vehicle production, it took three years to set up the facility and deliver the first locally made Patria, Defense Express noted. In contrast, Germany and the UK opted to partner with local defense firms for Patria 6x6 production.
What is known about the Patria 6×6 armored personnel carrierThe vehicle’s layout places the driver and commander at the front, the engine compartment just behind them, and a rear section for troops or special equipment."As for the parameters of the Patria 6×6, we are talking about an amphibious armored personnel carrier with a maximum weight of up to 24 tons, of which up to 8.5 tons is the combat load. Basic protection is STANAG level 2 bulletproof with the possibility of strengthening to level 4 (protection against calibers 7.62 - 14.5 mm and detonation of 6 - 10 kg of high-explosive material, respectively). Independent suspension with springs and hydraulic shock absorbers, the first and second axles are swivel. The engine is a 400-horsepower diesel. The landing compartment can accommodate 10 people, the crew - 2 people," the APC is described in the Defense Express material. The expected service life is over 30 years. It has an independent suspension system with springs and hydraulic shock absorbers. The first and second axles can swivel. The vehicle can cross water up to 1.5 meters deep, climb vertical obstacles up to 60 cm, and cross trenches 1.2 meters wide."The APC has a modular design and can be armed with a wide range of different weapons depending on the customer's needs - from a 12.7-mm machine gun to a grenade launcher or combat modules with 20/30-mm automatic cannons or heavy weapons, in particular, the 120-mm Patria Nemo turret mortar system," the Militarnyi portal notes. Thanks to its modular design, it can be turned into an anti-aircraft missile launcher, a communications vehicle, a medical evacuation unit, and more. The intuitive truck-like user interface, good visibility and large internal volume make it easy to learn and operate, the manufacturer describes the vehicle.Reviewers say the Patria 6×6 doesn’t stand out much in terms of specs. But its key advantage is cost, from €1 to €1.2 million per unit. That’s similar to the price of 4×4 armored vehicles like the French Serval or Australian Bushmaster PMV.

Why is the Patria 6×6 called the "European armored personnel carrier"In early 2020, Finland, Estonia, and Latvia launched a joint program for developing and purchasing armored vehicles – the Common Armored Vehicle Systems (CAVS). Other countries were welcome to join. Through this program, the Patria 6×6 APC is being produced and acquired.By summer 2025, Sweden, Germany, and Denmark also joined the CAVS program. Patria says they already have orders for over 1,000 APCs with a 6×6 wheel setup."In general, we are talking about a massive, pan-European, relatively cheap wheeled combat vehicle, the production of which is ready to be localized. The Patria 6x6 is already in service with Finland, Sweden and Latvia, is preparing to finalize a large-scale contract with Germany, which will replace the Fuchs with it, and is also going to enter the UK with no less ambitions. And with the addition of an equally interesting Patria vehicle on an 8x8 chassis, it is added, among the EU countries: Poland, Croatia and Slovenia," writes Defense Express. The idea is to supply participating countries with a standardized 6×6 APC. Localized production helps secure supply and maintenance. Joint procurement and bulk orders will support mass production and help keep costs down. All the Patria needs now is combat testing to prove what it can do in real conditions.
