That’s according to Ukrainian MP Vadym Halaichuk, who spoke on the European Space program with Yurii Fizer on Espreso TV.“Public support for Ukraine’s EU accession course is largely emotional. In reality, not many citizens fully understand the details of the integration process—what it entails, its key priorities, and how it works. Yet they still want EU integration, hoping it will improve their lives immediately. At the same time, they expect that their current standard of living will at least not worsen,” Halaichuk said.He added that this mismatch of expectations is a serious issue for many EU candidate countries: “The question is how to communicate the process effectively, because it is a difficult one. Reforms are rarely easy—they're often painful. But they are essential to meet Europe’s high standards.”According to the MP, there will be no instant leap to an EU standard of living.“I believe the vast majority of citizens understand that. But the conditions Ukrainians are living in today—and the enormous effort society is putting into defending the country and simply surviving—all of this inevitably adds an emotional layer. Clearly, we are falling short in communication, and this is where we need to improve significantly,” Halaichuk concluded. The European Union has expressed serious concern over Ukraine’s recent actions involving anti-corruption agencies NABU and SAP, reminding that its financial support depends on progress in democratic governance.
