Russian strikes on Odesa, Cherkasy cause fires and injuries, damage historic sites

Aftermath in OdesaOdesa came under a massive Russian drone attack overnight. Apartments were destroyed, people were injured, and fires broke out across the city. One of the fires occurred at the well-known Pryvoz market.At 07:30 a.m., Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported that firefighters had extinguished a fire at a two-story building and commercial pavilions on the Pryvoz market grounds, which had broken out as a result of the Russian strikes.
As of 07:15 a.m. on July 24, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported that a nine-story residential building in Odesa had been destroyed. Residents from apartments on the 5th to 8th floors were left without homes, and fires broke out on the 5th and 6th floors of one of the entrances. Rescuers also warned of the risk of structural collapse.A total of 33 residents were evacuated, and five people who were trapped in their apartments were rescued.Canine teams were working at the scene, with four-legged rescuers helping to search for potential victims.Psychologists from the State Emergency Service and the National Police were working with the residents. Efforts to eliminate the consequences of the Russian attack were ongoing.Fires also broke out at a private home and a gas station at other addresses. According to preliminary reports, three people were injured.
At 01:20 a.m., Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov reported explosions in the city. Around 2:00 a.m., more blasts were heard.At 02:27 a.m., Trukhanov again reported explosions.Later, Odesa Regional Military Administration head Oleh Kiper shared details of the consequences of Russia’s massive attack. According to him, despite active air defense efforts, civilian infrastructure was damaged. Several fires also broke out across the city.As of 02:51 a.m., fires were reported on two floors of a residential high-rise building, on the roof of a two-story building, in commercial pavilions, and at a gas station. Architectural landmarks in Odesa’s historic center, protected by UNESCO, were also damaged.Information about the number of casualties is being clarified.Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported that Odesa’s Pryvoz market was on fire as a result of the Russian attack."Rescuers are eliminating the consequences of Russian terror and trying to save this iconic place, so meaningful to Odesa residents and every tourist," the statement read.

Air defense activity in Zaporizhzhia regionAt 02:16 a.m., the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, Ivan Fedorov, reported on the air defense activity.At 02:22 a.m., he wrote about explosions in the region.By morning, Fedorov stated that Russia attacked Zaporizhzhia and the Zaporizhzhia district with nine Shahed drones.“The strikes hit summer cottage cooperatives. As a result, utility buildings were damaged. Fires broke out in houses and nearby areas. The fires have now been extinguished,” the head of the administration said.According to him, another strike hit a building of an educational institution that is currently not in use. The building caught fire, and emergency services extinguished the blaze.
Aftermath in MykolaivAt 02:56 a.m., Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych reported explosions in the city.At 03:24 a.m., the mayor wrote that fires had broken out in the city.In the morning, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service showed the aftermath of the Russian drone attack on Mykolaiv.“As a result of the shelling, fires broke out in the warehouse buildings of two enterprises — rescuers extinguished the blaze covering a total area of 450 square meters,” the State Emergency Service reported.
Missile attack on CherkasyAt 05:48 a.m., the head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, Ihor Taburets, reported a missile attack on Cherkasy.“We have several fires across the city. All services are working. According to preliminary data, six people were injured,” he wrote.By 06:13 a.m., Ihor Taburets stated that the situation was under control. According to rescuers, all fires have been extinguished.“There is no threat to the population,” added the administration head.At 06:30 a.m., Cherkasy Mayor Anatoliy Bondarenko reported that the number of injured people seeking medical help had risen to seven, including one child.
