Defense Express reported the information. The U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has given Ukraine the green light to purchase an unspecified number of Bradley IFVs, along with maintenance and repair services, under a contract capped at $150 million. The deal is expected to follow a common U.S. mechanism where allies purchase older equipment from storage, which must then be fully repaired and restored before entering service. However, the steep cost of this refurbishment process presents a significant challenge. As a recent example, Greece turned down an offer of 200 Bradleys—for which it only had to cover logistics—after calculating that restoring each vehicle would cost a staggering 8 million euros. If Ukraine faces similar expenses, the $150 million budget might only cover the complete overhaul of about 15 or 16 vehicles. The project will be managed by a group of international contractors, including the UK's BAE Systems, which holds the rights to the Bradley, alongside American, Italian, and German companies responsible for the engines, sights, and transmissions. All restoration work is slated to be conducted in Europe. An alternative possibility is that the funds are primarily intended to improve the maintenance and repair capabilities for the Bradleys that are already being operated by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The final details of the sale will become clearer after the U.S. and Ukraine finalize an intergovernmental agreement.
