In a statement shared with European Pravda, a European Commission spokesperson urged lawmakers to adopt the bill without delay.“Respect for the rule of law and the fight against corruption form the backbone of the European Union,” the spokesperson said. “They are central to Ukraine’s EU accession process and reflect the demands of its citizens. As a candidate country, Ukraine must fully meet these standards.”The European Commission made it clear that Brussels expects Ukraine’s leadership to restore trust — both at home and among international partners — by taking decisive action to safeguard judicial independence.European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen echoed that message in a July 28 call with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. She emphasized that Ukraine must continue building on its democratic foundations and protect independent anti-corruption institutions, which she described as “cornerstones of the rule of law.”On July 29, the Committee on Anti-Corruption Policy convened on its second attempt to consider and unanimously supported President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's bill concerning the strengthening of the independence of NABU and SAPO. Now, the Committee on Law Enforcement must vote on it.
