Espreso correspondent Tetiana Vysotska reported the information."Officially, Europeans welcome the fact that Ukraine has managed to return its anti-corruption agencies to the path of independence. The spokesperson for the European Commission, Guillaume Mercier, confirmed that after the adoption and signing of the new law regarding NABU and SAPO, the European Commission has no plans to freeze funding for Ukraine. At the same time, Guillaume Mercier publicly noted that the European Commission still needs to review the final text of the law to make sure it is exactly the document they were expecting. If it is indeed the same law, then the European Commission believes it contains all the necessary safeguards to ensure that NABU and SAPO remain independent anti-corruption bodies," Vysotska noted.According to the correspondent, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, also wrote an encouraging post on Twitter, stating that Ukraine has very quickly returned to the path of European values. After all, the fundamental principles of the EU are the fight against corruption and the rule of law."Anti-corruption and adherence to legal norms are the main messages from the European Union to Ukraine. European officials emphasize that the path to EU membership requires ongoing reforms. The EU has even provided Ukraine with a list of priority reforms it expects from Ukraine:the swift appointment of the head of the Bureau of Economic Security (ESBU);the reinstatement of international experts in the High Qualification Commission of Judges;the appointment of four judges who have already passed international vetting;the rejection of controversial draft amendments to the Criminal Code;the adoption of a law on administrative justice. These are the changes that are being demanded right now if Ukraine wants to continue its movement toward EU membership. In other words, our funds are not being frozen, but the European Commission is waiting for reforms from Ukraine," Vysotska emphasized. On Thursday, July 31, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine voted for draft law No. 13533 on strengthening the powers of NABU and SAPO, which was initiated by the President of Ukraine.
