This was reported by the Ukrainian partisan movement Atesh.According to partisans, the reasons for desertion are obvious: forcibly mobilized Ukrainians from Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Crimea do not want to fight against their own country."Lawlessness, incompetent command, refusal to process official reports, intimidation, and constant losses at the front only reinforce the desire to flee," Atesh stated. They also reported that soldiers are often listed as deserters even after being wounded, simply because their whereabouts are lost in paperwork after they are sent to a hospital. Medical staff often fail to specify a soldier’s location, and officers mark them as missing or having deserted."This is a system where mistakes are fatal and the truth is inconvenient. But there is a way out," the statement says."Atesh calls on all Russian servicemen: save yourselves, don’t become fuel for someone else’s war. Evade service, file reports, disappear, join the resistance."Earlier reports noted that since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, over 20,000 cases related to refusal of service have reached Russian courts, with 17,700 defendants already sentenced.
