Military expert, retired Navy Colonel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and spokesperson for Ukraine's General Staff (2014–2017), Vladyslav Seleznyov, shared the information on Espreso TV.“It is clear that the narrow corridor through which the Russians broke through near Dobropillia makes it impossible for them to use armored vehicles. Russian troops advanced using adapted unarmored cars and motorcycles, managing to push forward about 12 kilometers. Now, it seems that the Ukrainian Defense Forces are cutting off the main part of this breakthrough, at least that is what I’ve seen in open sources, and are actively working. In particular, our Azov units are targeting the assault forces that advanced a considerable distance. It is certainly an alarming signal, but it is obvious to me that our Defense Forces will make every effort to eliminate this salient. And Russian forces, lacking proper defenses and tank support, are unlikely to hold out for long,” he said.Vladyslav Seleznyov noted that it is important to understand that the war is constantly changing, and even the trends in how Russian assault units are used are quite telling.Russian forces now rely less on the power of armored vehicles, such as tanks, and more on speed and maneuverability.“Through these movements and actions, Russian invaders achieve success on the battlefield. Therefore, we also need to adapt our defensive actions to prevent their advance. These Russian advances are very telling and create a lot of problems that we have to address later. In any case, we must understand that the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad direction is one of Russia’s top priorities. Just days ago, we heard a statement from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy saying that to the 120,000 Russian occupiers currently operating in this section of the front, the enemy has recently added another 6,000. Of course, these 6,000 will not appear from thin air; most likely, these forces are being redeployed from less critical parts of the front. Therefore, we must understand that while fighting may ease somewhat in other areas, in the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad sector, this cannot be expected — it is a fact,” the military expert said.On August 9, DeepState reported that Russian forces are attacking Dobropillia with the 132nd Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, made up mostly of residents from temporarily occupied parts of the Donetsk region and migrants from Central Asia.On August 12, Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi ordered additional troops and equipment to be sent to eliminate sabotage groups in the Pokrovsk direction. On August 13, it was reported that the invading Russian army's advance north of Pokrovsk was predictable, as Ukraine's Defense Forces have limited reserves. On August 14, Lieutenant Colonel Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson of the Operational Command Dnipro, stated that Russian infantry groups that had advanced near Dobropillia are currently being detected and destroyed by the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
