The Center for Countering Disinformation reported the information.“As the Center learned from the Defense Forces, the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is preparing certain ‘historical materials’ for a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump,” the Center for Countering Disinformation noted. They clarify that these are “geographical maps” intended to allegedly prove to Trump that Ukraine is an “artificial state” formed at the expense of the territories of other countries.“This is supposedly meant to justify the Kremlin’s military aggression against Ukraine and the Russian Federation’s claims to Ukrainian territories,” the Center emphasizes. The report underscores that such pseudo-historical speculations are typical of Russian propaganda and have been repeatedly employed by Putin in public speeches.“Most modern countries, or parts of them, were once part of other states. This applies to today’s Russian Federation as well, which at one time was part of the Golden Horde, and many of Russia’s current territories in the past belonged to other states—Germany, Sweden, Finland, and others. However, no historical facts, and even less so pseudo-historical fantasies, can serve as grounds for territorial claims or justify armed aggression against other countries,” the Center for Countering Disinformation adds.Trump–Putin meeting: backgroundOn August 8, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine would involve some territorial exchanges.Later, the American president announced that he would meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday, August 15.Before the Trump–Putin meeting, senior officials from the U.S., Ukraine, and European countries are expected to hold talks to coordinate joint positions. The media also reported that Volodymyr Zelenskyy might join the U.S. leader’s meeting with the Russian leader.
