Ukrainian psychiatrist, psychotherapist, psychoanalyst, and public figure Roman Kechur shared his opinions on Espreso TV.“One of the reasons Putin started this war is that, like many Western politicians, he was confident of a quick victory. If he had known the war would last four years, he would have prepared differently. No matter how much he claims that everything is going according to plan and that he outsmarted everyone, Russia is certainly not in the best shape right now. In other words, Putin started this war because he truly believed it wasn’t a war but a ‘special military operation’ and that he could annex all of Ukraine to Russia,” Kechur explained.According to the psychotherapist, Putin is obsessed with power, which he maintains through deliberate manipulation of people. Losing control over this power would destroy him.“We shouldn’t worry too much about Putin. He is old, stubborn, and whatever he says doesn’t matter. That shouldn’t concern us. We must do everything possible to make him feel pain, let it last long enough, and ensure he fully experiences it. Most of all, he will suffer from losing control. That is his greatest fear. This person is organized around the idea of power. Putin trusts no one and is guided solely by the power he maintains through deliberate manipulation. He has succeeded at this. The only thing that can destabilize him is losing control,” he concluded.
