Vadym Denysenko, Doctor of Historical Sciences and political scientist, shared this opinion on Espreso TV.“I hardly believe in a quick end to the war, because today, August 18, Volodymyr Zelenskyy will say that we do not agree to the conditions that have been voiced in the press. And after that, the war will continue. I don’t believe any realistic peace agreement will be signed in the near future, although I would very much like to be wrong. If we follow this scenario, then the next window of negotiation opportunities will appear in the winter–spring of 2026, and it will take place as part of U.S.–China talks, where the issue of the war between Ukraine and Russia will be part of the finalization,” Vadym Denysenko noted. The political scientist noted that the key issue on the agenda for Zelenskyy and Trump today is Russia’s proposal concerning a withdrawal from Donbas. The Ukrainian side has already made it clear that it will not agree to withdraw from these territories. As a result, the situation is moving into uncharted territory, with uncertainty over how Trump will respond.“I don’t believe Ukraine can agree to withdraw from Donbas. But the main threat is that Trump may say the U.S. will then stop selling weapons and perhaps even stop sharing intelligence. If that happens, it will be a huge problem, if not a catastrophe, for Ukraine. Therefore, our main task is to make sure Trump does not react this way,” Denysenko concluded.According to the latest Fox News report, U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly backs Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin's proposal for Moscow to take full control of Donbas.Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has arrived in Washington. He will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump and European leaders to discuss steps to end the war.Trump stated that Zelenskyy could stop the war almost "immediately", emphasizing that Kyiv’s NATO membership is impossible.
