Veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war and retired National Guard major Oleksiy Hetman shared his opinions on Espreso.“This is not the first time Russian drones have entered the territory of NATO member countries. They will continue to launch them. I think that if the reaction in the United States and Europe remains very cautious, very measured, as it seems, they will keep coming. They will reach capitals, they will reach other countries. We expect: what will the Russians say about this? And they will say anything, they will claim they didn’t know, that it was a provocation, that they weren’t there, and so on,” he said.Oleksiy Hetman believes that Russia’s launch of a Shahed drone into Poland on August 20 was a test of the response.“Although everyone clearly understands, and the leadership of Poland understands perfectly well, that this is a Russian Shahed and a deliberate attack, it is still a test of the reaction. Moscow is watching to see what the response will be. And again, there is no reaction, and I am sure that these supposedly cautious, but actually cowardly statements — ‘we need to investigate, set up a commission,’ and so on — are simply out of fear of the Russian Federation. Well, let them continue to be afraid. As long as you fear them, Shaheds will keep coming, and increasingly often,” emphasized the retired National Guard major. On the night of August 20, a drone exploded in a cornfield in Lublin Voivodeship, Poland. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it was a Russian Shahed drone, while the Ministry of Defense called its crash a Russian provocation.
