Ukraine's Foreign Ministry stated this on Telegram.American director and screenwriter who made films Annie Hall, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Celebrity, and Midnight in Paris, Woody Allen joined the Moscow International Film Week via video link on August 24. Ukraine's Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the American filmmaker's participation in the aggressor country's event."This is a disgrace and an insult to all Ukrainian actors and filmmakers who were killed or wounded by Russian war criminals during Russia's aggression against Ukraine. By participating in a festival that unites Putin's supporters and mouthpieces, Allen deliberately turns a blind eye to the atrocities that Russia commits in Ukraine daily for 11 years now," the Foreign Ministry stated. The Ukrainian ministry also emphasized that culture should never be used to whitewash crimes or serve as a propaganda tool.As Russian media reported, on August 24, American director Woody Allen participated in the Legends of World Cinema session, which took place as part of the Moscow International Film Week.
Allen spoke online via video link. As Meduza writes, when asked if he had plans to film in Russia, the director replied that he had not received such offers."If such offers were made, I would sit down and think about what a script could be like about how good you feel in Moscow and St. Petersburg," RIA Novosti quoted the director.Among the foreign participants of the international film week who came to Moscow in person were Serbian director Emir Kusturica and American actor and stuntman Mark Dacascos.
