This opinion was voiced on Espreso TV by diplomat Volodymyr Ohryzko.“Regarding the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) summit to be held in Tianjin, China, on August 31–September 1, the situation is interesting. Xi Jinping wants to create an anti-American and anti-European front, involving everyone he can, including Putin. That is why Putin is still useful to Xi, since Putin represents a nuclear threat. Without Putin, nuclear weapons in Russia would be quickly dismantled, as happened after the collapse of the USSR. But with Putin, China can frighten the West both with nuclear arms and with the idea of the Global South uniting against the so-called ‘golden billion,’” the diplomat explained.According to him, in this context China will need India and other countries dissatisfied with the policies of Trump and Europe.“China needs to create a political picture showing everyone uniting against the ‘bad neo-imperialists and neo-colonialists.’ In my view, this will be the main propaganda theme of the SCO summit — that the Global South is finally united. Even Modi will come to China, which is sensational, given the long-standing tensions between India and China. But with this visit, Modi wants to demonstrate his discontent with U.S. policy. So there will be an attempt to show that under China’s banner, everyone is joining the fight against the ‘hated West.’ What will come of it? I think nothing,” Ohryzko concluded. On August 26, Bloomberg reported that satellite images of preparations for the September 3 parade in Beijing revealed anti-ship missiles, combat drones, and ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads.
