Ukraine's Foreign Minister wrote on X.On September 12, Andrii Sybiha welcomed the UK Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Yvette Cooper, in Kyiv."Today in the morning, together with the head of the Ukrainian President's Office, Andriy Yermak, I was pleased to meet Yvette Cooper at the Kyiv train station on her first visit to Ukraine as UK Foreign Secretary.
I told Yvette that we greatly value her personal commitment and the UK’s unfaltering support," Sybiha wrote. He noted that they would discuss the full range of bilateral and international issues on their agenda, including peace efforts, transatlantic pressure on Russia, and strengthening defense cooperation between Ukraine and the United Kingdom.Earlier, the UK government's website reported on a new package of sanctions against the Russian Federation.UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper arrived in Kyiv and met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. She announced that the UK is imposing new sanctions to reduce Russia’s funding sources and military supplies. The UK government’s website stated that these measures respond to “reckless Russian airstrikes” that violated NATO airspace in Poland and damaged the Cabinet of Ministers building in Kyiv. The sanctions target the shadow fleet transporting Russian oil and key suppliers of military components. The government clarified that the measures “further build economic pressure on Russia, targeting its military sector and illicit shadow fleet - as Putin continues to intensify his war, terrorising Ukrainians with missiles and drones, and killing innocent civilians.”“The UK continues to lead the charge against the shadow fleet carrying Russian oil exports. Today, 70 more ships in the fleet have been sanctioned. The UK has now targeted more oil tankers than any other country,” the UK government emphasized.Commenting on this, the Foreign Secretary noted that “the UK will not stand idly by as Putin continues his barbaric invasion of Ukraine. His complete disregard for sovereignty has been shown this week when he recklessly sent drones into NATO airspace. The security of NATO and Ukraine are crucial to the UK’s security – an integral part of the Prime Minister’s Plan for Change.” Yvette Cooper added that international efforts to increase economic pressure on Russia and cut off the critical cash flows that Putin “desperately needs to pay for this illegal war” are vital. These sanctions represent the next stage of the UK’s leading efforts to increase economic pressure, alongside supporting security and working with the Coalition of the Willing for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine. The sanctions also target 30 organizations and individuals supporting Russia’s military by supplying key equipment, such as electronics, chemicals, and explosives used to produce missiles and other weapons systems. These include companies supplying critical electronics to the Russian military, such as the Chinese firm Shenzhen Blue Hat International Trade Co., Ltd. and its two Russian co-owners, Olena Malytska and Oleksiy Malytsky, as well as the Turkish company Mastel Makina Ithalat Ihracat Limited Sirketi and its CEO, Azerbaijani citizen Shanlik Shukurov. Such electronics are widely used in Russian weaponry, including Iskander and Kh-101 missiles, as well as Russian drones that Putin uses to take Ukrainian lives.
