European Pravda reported the information, citing APA.The Austrian magazine Profil revealed on Friday that the manager came under counterintelligence scrutiny over meetings with a Russian embassy employee. The executive, who had worked at OMV for many years, was recently involved in a €1 billion merger deal between two subsidiaries in Abu Dhabi.According to the investigation, the man possessed information about both companies and allegedly passed it to a Russian diplomat during meetings in Vienna. It remains unclear whether he acted alone or how long the espionage activity lasted.During a search of his home, Austrian authorities seized numerous internal documents, and a criminal case was opened. The Austrian Foreign Ministry confirmed it had summoned the Russian chargé d’affaires after the case came to light.“The Russian side was asked to waive the diplomatic immunity of the diplomat” involved, the ministry said, adding that otherwise the official would be declared persona non grata. In response to a request from Reuters, OMV stated it was fully cooperating with the authorities but declined further comment “for data protection reasons.”OMV, headquartered in Vienna, is Central Europe’s largest oil company. Once among the first Western firms to sign a gas supply deal with the USSR, it has since terminated the agreement ahead of schedule.
