NATO scrambles German jets over Russian aircraft in Baltic Sea

DPA reported the information.According to the German Air Force, the aircraft was flying in international airspace but failed to respond to attempts at communication. The fighters took off from the Rostock-Laage airbase in northern Germany. The intruding plane was later identified as a Russian Il-20M reconnaissance aircraft.Tensions in the Baltic Sea region have escalated in recent days following multiple incidents involving Russian military aircraft. On Friday, three Russian MiG-31 interceptors entered Estonian airspace for about 12 minutes, while Poland reported that two Russian planes flew low over the Petrobaltic drilling platform, violating its security zone.In response, Estonia requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, scheduled for Monday, September 22, to address Russia’s airspace violations.
