And there will be more to come. These actions align with Russia’s long-practiced “salami tactics”: a series of incremental steps, each seemingly insignificant on its own, but together amounting to humiliation, strategic weakening of the opponent, and forcing behavior changes in line with Moscow’s goals.Beyond spreading panic, applying pressure on European governments, and fueling isolationist or capitulationist moods, such tactics are designed to provoke a “natural” reaction: shifting Europe’s focus inward on its own security while reducing support for Ukraine under the excuse of “not enough.”Let us recall the mood in Ukraine in August 2008. How many were truly ready to support Georgia, and how many echoed the populists of the time: “It’s not our business, we have enough of our own problems”?Today, the Ukrainian government faces a serious challenge. The “salami tactic” cannot be ignored, because each new slice will only be more poisonous. What is needed now is a joint response — not statements, but concrete actions.First, Ukraine must actively participate in building the “drone wall.” Its technology, Europe’s manufacturing capacity, and the experience of others (such as Israel) must come together without delay.Second, Russia must be hit asymmetrically. Every slice of its “salami” must be forced back down its throat. If not, the current political class in Europe’s capitals will be doomed.Third, we must deliver a united response to the populists. After World War II, the world found an antidote to communism; today, we must find one against Russian influence. So far, the Ukrainian government has not demonstrated the ability to tackle challenges of this scale. That is why our first response to Russia’s “salami tactics” must be the consolidation of efforts and resources — something still far from evident. Those in power prefer striking dramatic poses before the cameras and delivering speeches. Meanwhile, Russia slices its poisoned salami and scatters it across European courtyards — while a bulldozer grinds steadily over our land.SourceAbout the author.
