Afterward, the Hungarian PM told reporters that stopping purchases from Moscow would allegedly wreck the country’s economy since it lacks access to the sea.“We need not accept each other’s arguments,” Orban said of his conversation with Trump this week. “We just need to talk clearly about our interests and listen to each other as friends, then everyone does as they wish.”He also stressed that the government would prioritize its own interests in buying Russian energy and “need not accept the US administration’s guidance on the matter.” According to him, abandoning pipeline oil and gas supplies would allegedly shrink Hungary’s economy by 4%.At the UN General Assembly on September 23, Trump announced he was ready to impose tariffs on Russia if it refused a deal to end the war against Ukraine. He also noted that European countries continue buying Russian oil and gas.Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó says that Budapest will not stop purchasing Russian oil, even if U.S. President Donald Trump requests it.
