Defense Express reported the information.South Korean Hanwha Aerospace has revealed what its new infantry fighting vehicle K-NIFV will look like, scheduled for completion by March 2028. The design draws on lessons from the Russian-Ukrainian war, particularly the prevalence of drones, and focuses on increasing local production and reducing costs.Hanwha also highlights drone‑counter capabilities: a multi‑layered system that goes beyond an active protection system effective at about 300 m. At 3–4 km, a 30 mm cannon, guided by a dedicated radar, will engage drones, and at roughly 1 km, a machine‑gun module provides an additional layer.Defense Express notes that this is a solid approach to protecting armored vehicles from drones. The issue is evident on the Russian-Ukrainian battlefield, where vehicles are covered with nets and even used as improvised self-propelled guns.“At the same time, it remains to be seen how all this will perform in real conditions with threats from debris and constant interference,” the outlet stated.Hanwha K-NIFV at ADEX 2025. pic.twitter.com/CVpuVeY4Aq— Junsupreme (@RyszardJonski) October 20, 2025 A total of 34.5 billion won (about $24.1 million) has been allocated for the K‑NIFV, with work starting in October 2024. The relatively low cost is explained by industrial capacity and the use of an existing vehicle as the base.
