This was stated by retired U.S. Army General and former NATO Supreme Allied Commander in Europe Wesley Clark during an interview with Espreso TV.“For many years, the United States has spoken of its ‘pivot to Asia,’ expressing the intention to focus less on Europe and urging Europeans to take greater responsibility for their own security. But the reality is that Europe remains the United States’ largest trading and investment partner,” Clark explained. The general noted that Europe is and will remain America’s main partner, especially amid growing cooperation between China and Russia.“If Ukraine is destabilized, all of Europe will suffer — and this, in turn, will immediately trigger economic and political problems for the United States. So, regardless of preferences or theoretical debates about China, we must recognize the obvious: reality continues to draw the United States back to Europe. Not only because of trade and investment but also because China is increasingly engaged in an ‘unlimited’ partnership with Russia. The United States is slowly, though reluctantly, realizing at the political level that China cannot be contained in the Indo-Pacific without supporting Ukraine in Europe,” Clark emphasized.
