Details : Peskov was asked whether the Kremlin shared Rubio's view that a meeting between Putin and Trump was the only way to achieve a breakthrough in the settlement of the Russo-Ukrainian war.
The Kremlin spokesman said that contacts between Putin and Trump were "extremely important in the context of the Ukrainian settlement" [as he referred to the war – ed.].
"We certainly agree with this thesis. Its significance cannot be overestimated," Peskov said.
He added that a meeting at the highest level must be prepared and "it must be productive".
"Such a meeting is definitely necessary, both from the point of view of bilateral Russian-American relations and from the point of view of serious talks at the highest level on international issues and regional problems, including, of course, the crisis around Ukraine," Peskov said.
