Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate reported the information. It is noted that due to the depletion of reserves of equipment produced in the 1970s, the command of the Russian armed forces has begun actively returning even older models to service, in particular, T-62 tanks.According to intelligence, the restoration of these vehicles is mainly taking place at the 103rd Armored Repair Plant, located in the village of Atamanovka in Russia’s Zabaykalsky Krai. The supply of T-62 tanks to the combat zone is carried out mainly from the warehouses of the Eastern Military District. For example, on June 27, the transfer of 21 T-62 tanks from the Eastern Military District to the European part of Russia was recorded. The Main Intelligence Directorate adds that the technical condition of most of these vehicles is unsatisfactory, as the tanks have been stored outdoors for decades without maintenance. However, due to the acute shortage of modern main battle tanks such as the T-90M and T-72B3M, the use of T-62s is seen as a temporary but forced solution.“The key factors limiting the production capabilities of modern armored vehicles in Russia remain the lack of industrial capacity and a shortage of imported high-tech components. In practice, T-62s are used not only as active combat units but also as stationary firing points to strengthen defensive positions,” the intelligence agency notes.Recently, partisans reported that the Russian command is forcing its soldiers to buy scooters for assaults in the area of Oleshky in the Kherson region, due to a lack of armored vehicles.
