"The document includes an order from the district’s commander to boost Russian troop numbers by 'replenishing' the military base in Gyumri (Armenia)."The telegram lists urgent measures for the “replenishment” of the Russian units by selecting personnel from the 8th, 18th, 49th, and 58th combined arms armies of the Southern Military District.Unit commanders were also ordered to assist in selecting candidates for service in Gyumri.According to HUR, Moscow’s order outlines specific requirements for professional suitability, psychological stability, and combat readiness of those who will join the international contingent.Russians are also barred from selecting individuals who “have been involved in illegal trafficking of narcotic or psychotropic substances.”On July 5, HUR stated that Russia had stepped up deployment at its Gyumri base, seeking to expand its political and military influence in the South Caucasus amid growing tensions with Azerbaijan.
