Journalist Vitaly Portnikov expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.“If Ukraine ever emerges from this war, it can only do so as part of the West. That is, the West can take part in rebuilding Ukraine’s economy. We are talking specifically about the postwar period. Clearly, the wartime period, however long it lasts, will be difficult. After today’s latest shelling of Kyiv—which is neither the first nor the last—and other Ukrainian regions, is there really any need to prove this? There isn’t. Moreover, I think everyone understands that danger will lurk anywhere in Ukraine. It seems to me that just last night there were explosions in Chernivtsi, which has never before been part of such large-scale attacks. There are only a few places left that have never been targeted by the occupiers, and once those are hit, everyone will understand: in the next phase of the Russian-Ukrainian war, due to technological changes, there will be no safe places for anyone in Ukraine,” he said.Vitaly Portnikov emphasized that this is reality, and people must live with this reality. He stressed that what has been destroyed can be rebuilt, and Ukrainians must accept this responsibility.“This is reality, and people must live with it, and people must realize that after the war, it does not mean that everything cannot be restored—it can. This will also require responsibility from citizens. We have a perfect example of a country destroyed by war that still cannot recover—Lebanon. And it’s not because someone is constantly attacking Lebanon; you might say, ‘Oh, it’s Israel bombing them.’ No, it’s irresponsible. They can’t get rid of their challenges, they can’t elect serious, responsible politicians, and so they continue to live in ruins. Well, I think this won’t happen with Ukraine; after all, we are not in the Middle East. But people need to understand this. The work ahead must be very serious,” the journalist added.
