Reuters reports.The NDAA bill, passed on July 9 by a 26–1 vote, also extends the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative through 2028. The legislation increases funding from $300 million in 2025 to $500 million in 2026.In addition to Ukraine aid, the bill contains key provisions, such as blocking a controversial proposal by President Donald Trump to retire the U.S. Air Force’s A-10 aircraft fleet.The NDAA authorizes a total of $925 billion for national defense. Of this, $878.7 billion is allocated to the Department of Defense and $35.2 billion to the Department of Energy.The bill must still go through the legislative process in the coming months. Later reports suggested Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth unilaterally ordered the pause, despite internal assessments showing no risk to U.S. readiness. On July 8, President Trump said the U.S. would resume weapons deliveries to Ukraine. The Pentagon has since announced an additional military aid package.
