This opinion was expressed by Janusz Bugajski, an analyst, historian, and expert at the Jamestown Foundation in Washington, D.C., in an interview with Antin Borkovskyi on Espreso TV."President Trump wants to be seen as the great peacemaker, and President Zelensky has taken meaningful steps by moving forward in an effort to help President Trump achieve a ceasefire as the beginning of some form of long-term peace. However, President Trump appears to have realized that he is becoming increasingly frustrated with President Putin, who keeps insisting, “Yes, I want peace, I want a ceasefire,” and so on, yet offers no concrete evidence to support those claims. In fact, it is clear that the Russian leadership intends to continue the war until they achieve their objectives. Those objectives include overthrowing the Ukrainian government, taking control of the Ukrainian state, and ultimately turning every Ukrainian into a Russian. That has been their ambition for many centuries," the analyst said.In his opinion, time is definitely not on Russia's side from the economic, demographic, international, diplomatic and military points of view, especially in the context of the active strengthening of European defense capabilities, and Russia is facing increasing difficulties."Germany appears ready to spend over 2% of its GDP on defense and is increasing its production of military equipment. Other European NATO members have also committed to higher defense spending. Over the next one to three years, Europe will become a stronger force and will be in a much better position to support Ukraine. In the meantime, we must not overlook what Ukraine has already accomplished. We often focus on Western aid, but Ukraine is now a global leader in drone production and drone warfare. In fact, Ukraine is setting the standard in modern warfare and has much to teach NATO and other Western countries. In addition, Ukraine is rebuilding and strengthening its own defense industry. All of these factors point to one conclusion: time is on Ukraine’s side. Time is not on Russia’s side," Bugajski summed up.On July 10, Ukraine and the United Kingdom signed a long-term defense agreement for 19 years, under which London will supply Kyiv with over 5,000 air defense missiles from Thales.German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also announced Berlin’s readiness to purchase additional Patriot air defense systems from the United States in order to transfer them to Ukraine.
