This opinion was expressed by analyst, historian, and expert at the Jamestown Foundation in Washington, D.C. Janusz Bugajski in an interview with Espreso TV."I think the Kremlin is very fearful. If major sanctions are indeed imposed, in other words as part of a package where oil revenues truly begin to decline because third countries such as China, India, and other importers of Russian oil are sanctioned, that would be a turning point. The war has been fueled by the international sale of Russian oil. This must be stopped. One of the ways in which NATO is currently contributing is by preventing parts of the shadow fleet from exporting oil through the Baltic Sea," the analyst said.According to him, there are other ways to influence, and many of them are already included in the bipartisan sanctions package, which has broad support in both the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives."I believe Putin is very concerned that these sanctions may indeed be implemented, but he remains uncertain because of President Trump. That uncertainty, I think, contributes to the Kremlin's fear. The Russian economy is not performing well. They try to push the narrative that the Russian economy is doing fine despite the sanctions, but that is simply not true. A large part of the civilian economy has been redirected toward weapons production. A significant portion of state revenues has also been allocated to paying people to join the military. But all of that is now in decline, a serious decline," Bugajski summed up.On June 29, U.S. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham was given President Donald Trump's approval to impose sanctions on Russia's oil exports, which primarily go to India and China. On June 30, the European Union extended sectoral sanctions against the Russian Federation for another six months. On July 8, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot announced that the EU is preparing to impose the toughest sanctions against Russia since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
