This was reported by Ukraine's military intelligence on Telegram.“Twenty tankers of the Russian ‘shadow fleet’ have been identified. Lacking proper Western insurance, they support Russia’s maritime exports of oil and petroleum products from ports in the Baltic and Black Seas, as well as the Arctic and Pacific regions, to India, China, and other countries—employing deceptive and high-risk shipping practices,” the statement said. Some tankers are linked to sanctioned Russian companies such as JSC Volgotanker, LLC Volgotrans, LLC Rosewood Shipping, LLC Enea, LLC SBK Dolyna, LLC Ridni Polya, and LLC Staksel. The latter company, for instance, was responsible for transporting fuel oil aboard the Volgoneft-212 tanker, which sank in December 2024 in the Kerch Strait, causing an oil spill and environmental disaster.HUR noted that Russian occupiers continue to expand their shadow fleet using newly registered tankers flagged in countries including China, Singapore, Azerbaijan, India, and the Seychelles.“The Iranian ‘ghost armada’ generates significant oil revenues that allow Iran to further develop and distribute weapons and engage in destabilizing activities, including through regional proxy forces,” the statement added. On July 1, the Vilamoura tanker, carrying 1 million barrels of oil, was hit by an explosion in the Mediterranean Sea. According to Ukrainian intelligence, the vessel is part of Russia’s shadow fleet.
