Military expert Dmytro Sniehyriov, co-chair of the NGO Prava Sprava, said this on Espreso TV."It is a mistake to believe that the main direction of the Russian attack is Pokrovsk. This war is not about territory, but about minerals. The Russians were interested in Pokrovsk district for its lithium deposits, namely the village of Shevchenko. They have now resolved this issue and seized a strategic Ukrainian deposit, which is one of the largest in Europe. The Russian army has redeployed about 110,000, and according to another estimate, up to 120,000 of its operational reserves to this area. This grouping is one of the most combat-ready in the Russian army. The second is coking coal deposits, we are talking about the village of Kotlyne, which has also come under the control of the occupiers. These are the largest deposits of coking coal in Europe," commented Dmytro Sniehyriov. In his opinion, the Russians were solving several issues for themselves - not only control over these deposits, but also a blow to Ukraine's metallurgical enterprises by controlling the deposits in the Pokrovsk district. According to experts, after the seizure of coking coal deposits, Ukraine's steel production could drop from 6 million tons to 2.5 million tons. This means social tension in the territories controlled by Ukraine - Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions, where the main steelmaking enterprises of our country are concentrated. It also means a loss of huge foreign exchange earnings for the budget."In the Pokrovsk sector, the Russian forces are making a breakthrough in the junction between Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka, the so-called Malynivka junction, where the invaders are directing their main efforts not towards Myrnohrad with the threat of reaching the Dnipro region, but towards Kostiantynivka. And Kostiantynivka is 10 kilometers away. This creates a threat of operational encirclement from four directions. Similar pressure is coming from Toretsk. Unfortunately, there are tactical successes of the enemy in the area of Diliivka and Yablunivka, where the distance to Kostiantynivka is up to 10 km. In addition, the Russians are putting pressure in the Kramatorsk direction, namely Chasiv Yar, Bila Hora, Stupochky, which also threatens to reach Kostiantynivka, which is 8 km away," the military expert noted.According to him, the Russian forces are currently controlling the dominant heights in Chasiv Yar on one flank and Toretsk on the other, where the dominant heights are also controlled by Russian units. And Kostiantynivka itself is located in a lowland, so it will be a rather serious challenge for Ukraine's defense."The main goal of the Russian army is to capture the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration, four important industrial cities of Ukraine: Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Druzhkivka, and Kostiantynivka. And the Russians are rushing to Sloviansk because it has the largest shale gas deposits in Europe. So much for solving economic issues by seizing Ukrainian territories," Sniehyriov summarized. On July 10, the Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff reported that 214 clashes occurred at the front, with the Russian army attacking the positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in 12 directions. In the Pokrovsk sector, the Ukrainian defenders stopped 59 Russian troops' assault and offensive actions.
