This was stated on Espreso by diplomat and former Ukrainian ambassador to the U.S. and France, Oleh Shamshur.“It’s clear that aid to Ukraine from Europe will be decided in the triangle: Germany, France, and the UK. These leaders are being forced to cooperate, forced in the sense that we hope they act in sync,” he said.In his view, the three seem to share a vision on key points, though there are still differences.“I, like many of us, don’t want to see that same old European paradox again. They say all the right things – just look at Macron’s latest statements or the newly published national strategic review, everything looks good on paper – but there’s still a gap between words and action. For example, they say one thing, then we hear they won’t give us the Taurus missiles after all. Or Macron warns about a potential Russian attack in 3 to 5 years, and at the same time – if press reports are correct – refuses to fund weapon purchases from the U.S.,” he noted. The diplomat stressed the lack of concrete action.“It feels like there’s still time. But there isn’t. The clock is ticking backwards. We don’t have time – and neither do our partners. That’s why I’ll wait to draw conclusions until we see the promised projects actually happen – especially the ones tied to Ukraine’s air defense and long-range strikes into Russian territory,” Shamshur concluded.
