Journalist Vitaly Portnykov said this on Espreso TV."The real path to Palestinian statehood isn't in declarations by the French president, who is just boosting his own political standing and playing internal political games. He’s also pushing his influence in the Middle East, since France has ties to many Arab states — Morocco, Algeria, and others. Everything that has happened since October 7, 2023, has created conditions for this state to never exist. I believe the Arabs of Palestine have lost a historic chance for real statehood," he said.Portnykov said these territories might still have formal signs of a state."They can have a flag, an office in Ramallah, international recognition, a seat at the UN, supporters marching for them around the world, all of it. And all this can even grow over the years. But the chance to build a real, functioning Palestinian state will keep shrinking every year without a positive solution," the journalist noted. In his view, the world will eventually accept that a Palestinian state won't happen."At some point, a different solution will be needed, like we see now in Cyprus. So many years have passed since the island was divided that it's now clear a unified state isn’t possible, even though 20 years ago it seemed like Cyprus would reunite. History punishes those who don’t understand in time what the right solution looks like," Portnykov concluded.
