According to Orbán, the risk of a global conflict is steadily increasing, and Hungary must be prepared to stay out of it. He pointed to familiar signs that preceded previous world wars—rising tensions between major powers, an uptick in armed conflicts, and intensifying arms races. European Pravda reported this, citting Hungarian government website. “Hungary needs calm, quiet, and strategic composure,” Orbán said.“Ukraine must not be admitted to the European Union—doing so would also bring war—even if Brussels turns upside down,” the Hungarian government website quoted him as saying.Acknowledging the limits of Hungary’s diplomatic and military influence, Orbán stressed the need to focus on regional peace. “We must build peace alliances with everyone we can,” he said, noting that Hungary should maintain positive relations with all global power centers in order to stay out of war.“It’s crucial that every major power has an economic and financial stake in Hungary’s success—so that no one benefits from weakening or destroying us,” he said. “Avoiding war depends on having the strength to defend ourselves. We still have work to do, though defense spending already totals 1.75 trillion forints.”Orbán added that Hungary must achieve full national consensus on not becoming confined within any one bloc. “We are part of the Western alliance system, but we must also be present in the Eastern economy,” he concluded.Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán says that his country offers Ukrainians "strategic cooperation" rather than full integration into the EU, due to fears of being drawn into war.
