That’s what former U.S. Army Europe commander General Ben Hodges said on Espreso TV."Right now, the focus should be on making it as hard as possible or ideally, fully blocking Russian oil exports through the Baltic and Black Seas using the so-called shadow fleet. If Ukraine and its allies can shut down these flows, either legally or by hitting refineries and ports, it would be a major blow. Without oil export income, Russia won’t be able to sustain its military at this level," Hodges said.He noted that Russia’s military economy is already propped up artificially, and even Russian officials admit it’s fragile."If the West, especially the U.S., used those €300 billion in frozen Russian assets to fund Ukraine’s defense, it would be a game-changer. That kind of outside pressure is critical. It would show Russia the West is serious. Right now, I think Putin still doubts that, which is why he thinks he can keep going without consequences," Hodges said.Earlier, U.S. senators from both parties urged the Trump administration to send seized Russian assets to support Ukraine.Espreso’s Strasbourg correspondent Tetyana Vysotska reported that Europe made it clear Russian assets won’t be unfrozen early in the negotiation process, but there’s a chance to use them once the war ends.
