Kupiansk — the riddle of RadkivkaA week ago, Russian forces were recorded not only in Radkivka but also attacking Moskovka, where they were moving toward the main road leading to Kupiansk. It is obvious that if the R07 Kharkiv–Kupiansk highway is cut, the city will effectively find itself encircled, with no way to maintain logistics. In that case, a rapid loss of Kupiansk would be inevitable. At the same time, the Defense Forces denied the loss of Radkivka and showed video of their presence in the village, meaning fighting for it is ongoing. It is clear that the Ukrainian Armed Forces understand the danger of Kupiansk being encircled and are taking countermeasures to prevent this.Ukraine Russia war live map, August 2-9, photo: EspresoRussian forces are breaking through toward Siversk and LymanAlthough the advance on Lyman from the north via Karpivka and Drobysheve has effectively stalled, the enemy has instead managed to push significantly on the eastern flank. In particular, the invading Russian forces have almost completely occupied Yampolivka, as well as broken through along two axes and entrenched themselves in Torske. Fighting is effectively ongoing throughout the entire village, and the front runs along the Chornyi Zherebets River, which the Russians are trying to cross. In the area of the village of Zarychne, they already attempted an assault, which the Defense Forces successfully repelled. However, the very fact that the Russians have reached the Chornyi Zherebets along a broad front and are gradually occupying Torske takes us back to 2022, when the invaders did manage to cross the river and soon after occupy Lyman. Thus, the threat now is quite real.Ukraine Russia war live map, August 2-9, photo: EspresoAll the more so as they are simultaneously advancing rather rapidly in the Serebrianskyi reserve, where the front had been almost static for over two years, and the situation for the Ukrainian army has now deteriorated significantly. In one sector, the enemy even managed to create a pocket for Ukrainian troops, from which they can escape only by swimming across the fairly wide Siverskyi Donets River. At the same time, the Russian Armed Forces have increased pressure from the opposite bank of the river on Hryhorivka and Serebrianka. In this way they are attempting to move along both banks of the river and are not only advancing on Lyman, but also closing in on Siversk from both flanks, where a creeping offensive continues. The city is not only our easternmost outpost, but also the gateway to Sloviansk—just like Lyman.Front is gradually approaching KostiantynivkaAlthough the Russian troops aren’t making a rapid advance here, each week they capture some of Ukraine’s key fortified positions along the entire perimeter of the front. In particular, they moved quickly by 3.5 km between Toretsk and Dyliivka in the direction of Kleban-Byk. At the same time, the enemy seized several more blocks in Toretsk itself and is trying to attack from Toretsk toward that same Kleban-Byk to finally cut off the city’s logistics. On the other flank, the Russians are assaulting Shcherbynivka, and their forward units even attempted to attack Katerynivka. All this creates the preconditions for the Ukrainian forces soon being forced to leave Toretsk if the advance on Kleban-Byk develops successfully for the invaders. On the western flank, the Russians have almost completely occupied our fortified area in Yablunivka, and fierce fighting continues in Oleksandro-Kalynove, which will determine the fate of a significant area south of the reservoir. If the enemy advances there as well, the Defense Forces will have to roll back their defenses from Toretsk to Yablunivka and entrench north of the reservoir. On the other hand, after a month of fighting they have only managed to break through to Yablunivka, while the Defense Forces are holding back the Russian scourge on all other sectors of this front.Ukraine Russia war live map, August 2-9, photo: EspresoAt the same time, the Russians are trying to bypass Kostiantynivka from the west. There they have stalled on the Pokrovsk–Kostiantynivka road but have made gains slightly farther west, where they occupied Popiv Yar and also fought their way into Poltavka. Although the pace of the enemy offensive here is quite slow, it is likely that the push toward Kleban-Byk and “closing the issue” with Toretsk are their higher priorities.Encirclement of PokrovskWith each passing week, this threat becomes increasingly real. Especially after the Russian army managed to break through to Rodynske not only head-on, but also from the north near Sukhietske. Less than 3 km remain before the Pokrovsk–Dobropillia highway is cut. The battle for Rodynske has effectively begun, and it will determine how quickly the Russians can advance further west and sever all logistics in the Hryshyne area. After that, Myrnohrad and Pokrovsk will find themselves in operational encirclement, since holding the defense of the cities without supplies will be extremely difficult.At the same time, the Russians are trying to push through to Dobropillia. Near Novyi Shakhove there have already been clashes with the enemy’s forward detachments. However, for example, near Mayak and Volodymyrivka, the Ukrainian forces counterattacked and halted the enemy advance. Thus, they are trying to widen the front toward Dnipro in order to bypass our fortifications near Pokrovsk in a wide arc. Over the week they managed to take part of the gray zone near Novomykolaivka, but the Defense Forces did not allow them to secure the village itself or even to cross the Solona River.Slowdown on the Novopavlivka frontThe pace of the Russian advance has fallen somewhat from 8–9 sq km per day to 5–6 sq km, and the number of attacks has likewise decreased. The enemy is mostly leveling the front, as near Orikhove, and occupying gray zones between Voskresenka and Komar, as well as near Zelenyi Hai, without moving forward. The only tactical success was the capture of the small village of Dachne on the right bank of the Vovcha River. This is the first occupied village in the Dnipropetrovsk region. The Russian Armed Forces are also entrenching in Voznesenka and have approached Oleksandrohrad to within 1.5 km, but the battle for the village has not yet begun. It is likely the Russian scourge is gathering forces to assault our fortified areas along the Vovcha River—near Ivanivka and Havrylivka. They are also preparing to advance on Novopavlivka itself. Understanding that a frontal attack is not promising, the enemy plans to force the Solona River to bypass Novopavlivka from the north, but for now the Defense Forces are not allowing them to do so.Ukraine Russia war live map, August 2-9, photo: EspresoZaporizhzhia frontThe Russians failed to break through via Temyrivka after two weeks of fighting and therefore began carving out a bypass route slightly farther south, where they advanced a few kilometers west of Novopillia. They also expanded their zone of control north of Zelenе Pole and Novosilka, creating the prospect of extending the front line at the junction of three regions—Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia.
