Serhiy Zgurets, director of the Defense Express media and consulting company, said this on Espreso TV.“When we talk about the situation near Dobropillia — in particular, the enemy’s advance toward Zolotyi Kolodiaz — this didn’t happen yesterday or the day before. This infiltration in this sector of the defense has been going on for about a month. Small groups have been gradually pushing through our defensive line, where we lacked manpower, infantry, and drones. This is a dangerous direction because advancing toward Dobropillia brings them close to crossing the Dobropillia–Kramatorsk highway.Dobropillia is a hub for two logistics routes coming from Pokrovsk — through Rodynske and Hryshyne — which converge on this road. If the enemy crosses the highway near Dobropillia, it would cause serious logistics problems for supplying Pokrovsk. The entire garrison now defending Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad would face a situation where supply routes are under enemy control, raising the question of withdrawing units from this sector. This advance toward Dobropillia is essentially a breakthrough using the enemy’s new tactic of small assault groups. The president’s statements yesterday about measures being taken, that the Russians had advanced 10 kilometers but were now being destroyed, are absolutely correct,” he said.Zgurets stressed that the seriousness of the situation is underscored by the General Staff’s decision to deploy additional units to the area.“We know the Azov First Corps has been sent in, along with the Rubizh Brigade of the National Guard, in addition to existing forces. The 92nd Brigade is also operating here. The Armed Forces are now trying to contain the enemy’s advance, prevent it from widening, and stop them from moving beyond Zolotyi Kolodiaz.Today, OSINT analysts reported, based on analysis of explosions and other data, that the Da Vinci Assault Battalion and the 92nd Brigade conducted counterattacks that significantly reduced the enemy’s advance in the Zolotyi Kolodiaz area, pushing them back from the point where they had reached the Dobropillia–Kramatorsk highway,” the expert said.If confirmed, this would mean the General Staff’s measures are proving effective.“But we must understand that the situation, where the enemy advanced so deeply, is not normal. It’s linked to several factors: infiltration through our thin defense lines; likely a shortage of drone units to destroy the enemy; poor coordination between units and corps at the seam where the enemy broke through; and possibly inaccurate reporting from brigade commanders up the chain. All this contributed to the advance, which looked extremely critical yesterday and the day before, especially in the media. Now I hope the situation will be somewhat contained, as this is a key sector and the publicity and its importance have prompted the redeployment of our units to neutralize the threat,” he said.Zgurets added that the enemy will continue to try to destabilize the front, including by intensifying operations in other areas.“The enemy will keep trying to shake the situation. I expect them to step up actions in the Kupiansk and Zaporizhzhia sectors to complicate our ability to concentrate reserves in the Pokrovsk area, which is now their top priority. This tactic of encircling Pokrovsk from multiple directions is currently the most desirable for them to achieve some changes on the front line — so far, only at the tactical level. With effective measures by the General Staff, they should not escalate into operational-level changes,” the military expert concluded. On August 9, DeepState reported that Russian troops in Donetsk region were assaulting Dobropillia using forces from the 132nd Separate Motor Rifle Brigade, most of whose personnel are residents of temporarily occupied areas of Donetsk region and migrants from Central Asia.On August 12, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi ordered additional forces and equipment to be sent to neutralize sabotage groups in the Pokrovsk sector.President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said military briefings had been presented on the situation at the front, including in the Dobropillia area and the Pokrovsk sector.Deputy commander of the 3rd Assault Brigade Maksym Zhorin, commenting on the escalation in the Dobropillia area, said that the situation in the Pokrovsk sector is far from being under control.
