Norway allocates nearly $100 million to Ukraine for gas ahead of heating season

Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy reported the information.“The timely and systematic assistance of the Norwegian government is extremely important for ensuring Ukraine's energy security. This demonstrates the unwavering solidarity of our international partners and their willingness to assist in the implementation of energy projects and the strengthening of the independence of the Ukrainian energy sector,” said Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk.Naftogaz, leading enterprise in the country's fuel and energy complex, will use the funds to build sufficient gas reserves ahead of the heating season.Earlier this year, Volodymyr Omelchenko, director of energy programs at the Razumkov Center, told Espreso TV that Ukraine had less than 10% of its storage capacity filled. By June, Energy Research Center director Kharchenko said the country recorded its lowest-ever level of gas reserves.Currently, Ukraine has enough domestic generation, but imported gas will be needed for winter. The Ministry of Energy also reported that over 1 billion cubic meters of gas were pumped in June, the highest monthly figure since August 2023.
