President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told journalists this, according to RBC-Ukraine.The head of state emphasized that election issues should not divide society during the war.“I would be glad if the elections were already held, just to be done with this topic, because it brings nothing except quarrels, political calls, posters, and so on,” Zelenskyy said. The president called ending the war his main priority.“The main thing is that they give me the opportunity to finish the war, rather than divide the country beforehand. This is my only request to everyone interested,” he stated. On March 12, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that elections in Ukraine will be held after the end of the war and the lifting of martial law.The Central Election Commission noted that at least six months must pass after the lifting of martial law before elections can be held. The Central Election Commission is also proposing changes to legislation that would establish additional polling stations outside of embassies and consulates, allowing millions of Ukrainians abroad to participate in future elections. In April, Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk said that elections in Ukraine after the end of the legal regime of martial law will be unique, as they do not fall under any classification provided in the Constitution. “The uniqueness of the current situation is that the elections that will be held in Ukraine after the end of martial law do not fall under any classification in our Constitution. We have provisions for regular or early elections, but these are so-called post-regular, meaning post-war elections, and a separate legislative act will be required to hold them,” the parliamentary speaker explained.
